CIEREE 2011 conference in Fes MoroccoUpon invitation of the organizers of the " Congrès International sur les Energies Renouvelables et L'Efficacité Energetique" (CIEREE 2011), which was held from the 20th to the 21st of April 2011 at the Université Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah-Fès , the coordinator had the opportunity to visit Morocco for the first time, where he spent approximately 4 days( 18-22.04.2011).
After landing in Casablanca on the 18th, the coordinator traveled first to Rabat to meet the ANSOLE national representative in Morocco, Prof. Dr. Abdelfettah Barhdadi (co-initiator of ANSOLE), who welcomed him in his home to spend the first night on the Moroccan soil. The Moroccan hospitality was displayed by a feast meal offered by the host family. Prof. Dr. Lofti El Mostapha , who was present during initial network gathering in Sousse Tunisia on the 04.11.2010, was invited to the meal together with his wife. It was a joyful reunion … The three men discussed about the future activities of ANSOLE, especially in the area of training and education. An ANSOLE Masters program on renewable energies involving many African institutions was proposed by both Moroccan friends.
After some sightseeing in Rabat and discussing about how to promote ANSOLE in Morocco, the coordinator left for Fès in the afternoon of the 19th. He was very impressed by the beauty of the train station of Fès. He was welcomed in Fès by Prof. Dr. Izzedine Zorkani, who acted as a guide to show him around the old city of Fès and the bazaar. The coordinator had the honor to give two lectures on both days of the CIEREE 2011 meeting. A good number of Moroccan scientists attending the conference expressed the desire to start focusing their research activities on solar energy. Organic photovoltaics were found to be an area of competitive research, due to less financial burdens and easy research conditions as compared to photovoltaics of 1st and 2nd generations.
